The University of Colorado at Boulder is renowned for its academic excellence and top collegiate athletes. Also included on CU's list of achievements is the University of Colorado Snowboard Team (CUST), the first and largest collegiate level snowboard club team in the nation. The CU Snowboard Team is recognized locally and nationally for producing top-quality riders. Our team is a non-profit organization, and is funded by member dues, club sports, and donations submitted by team member families, friends, and supporters. The organization aims to create a positive environment open to riders of all levels who wish to improve their snowboarding skills and meet fellow riders. Other than competitions and dry land training, the team arranges 2-3 trips a year in which the entire team is invited on (paid separately than dues). In the past few years these trips have included: Jackson Hole, Mt. Baker, Europe, as well as weekly Colorado backcountry excursions.
CUST hosts two world class coaches who hold on snow practice 5 days a week running through the entire snowboard season, with additional pro guest/competition coaching in the Spring. Patrick Abramson, our head coach since 2003, was a top professionally sponsored snowboarder for 15 years and has also held the position of head coach at Windell's snowboard camp. CUST consists of 40-70 committed snowboarders ranging from intermediate to professional; many members accumulate 40+ days of world class coaching with the team each winter. Our team has dedicated and exclusive tryout-only men's and women's competition divisions! We will be conducting tryouts for 7 men and 5 women before January of 2011; those chosen will compete nationally for CUST in the spring.
In 2007, CUST riders proved their excellence by placing first in Halfpipe and Slopestyle at the USCSA nationals and have continued to dominate in competitions within the snowboard community. In the past 4 years of competition the CU Snowboard Team has never finished below 2nd place in a collegiate national championship. Although CUST is known for its prestige, we are not an exclusive club. The CUST family is open to any snowboarder who wants to progress their skills!
